During the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC), there was a man in the state of Chu who called himself Lord Ye.
春秋时期，楚国有一个自称叫叶公的人。
chūn  qiū  shí  qī，chǔ  guó  yǒu  yī  gè  zì  chēng  jiào  yè  gōng  de  rén。

Lord Ye often said to others, "I like the dragon very much. How proud and auspicious the dragon is!"
叶公经常对别人说:“我特别喜欢龙，龙多么神气、多么吉祥啊!”
yè  gōng  jīng  cháng  duì  bié  rén  shuō：”wǒ  tè  bié  xǐ  huan  lóng ，lóng  duō  me  shén  qì ，duō  me  jí  xiáng  a !  ”  

So when his family decorated the house, craftsmen helped him carve dragons on the beams, pillars, doors, Windows and walls everywhere. It was like a dragon palace.
于是当他家装修房子的时候，工匠们就帮他在房梁上、柱子上、门窗上、墙壁上到处都雕刻上龙，家里就像龙宫一样。
yú  shì  dàng  tā  jiā  zhuāng  xiū  fáng  zi  de  shí  hou  ，  gōng  jiàng  men  jiù  bāng  tā  zài  fáng  liáng  shàng  、  zhù  zi  shàng  、  mén  chuāng  shàng  、  qiáng  bì  shàng  dào  chù  dōu  diāo  kè  shàng  lóng  ，  jiā  li  jiù  xiàng  lóng  gōng  yī  yàng。  

Even Lord Ye's own clothes were embroidered with lifelike dragons.
就连叶公自己的衣服上也绣上了栩栩如生的龙。                                                                                                                jiù  lián  yè  gōng  zì  jǐ  de  yī  fu  shàng  yě  xiù  shàng  le  xǔ  xǔ  rú  shēng  de  lóng  。  

The news that Ye Gong liked the dragon reached the ears of the real dragon in the Heavenly Palace. The real dragon thought: "I didn't think that there was a person on earth who liked me so much! I must go down and see him."
叶公喜欢龙的消息传到了天宫中真龙的耳朵里，真龙想:“没想到人间还有一个这样喜欢我的人呢!我得下去看看他。”
yè  gōng  xǐ  huan  lóng  de  xiāo  xi  chuán  dào  le  tiān  gōng  zhōng  zhēn  lóng  de  ěr  duo  li，zhēn  lóng  xiǎng：”méi  xiǎng  dào  rén  jiān  hái  yǒu  yī  gè  zhè  yàng  xǐ  huan  wǒ  de  rén  ne  !  wǒ  de  xià  qù  kàn  kàn  tā  。  ” 

One day, the dragon came down from the sky and came to the house of Ye Gong.
有一天，龙从天上降下来，来到了叶公的家里。
yǒu  yī  tiān，lóng  cóng  tiān  shang  jiàng  xià  lái，lái  dào  le  yè  gōng  de  jiā  li。  

The dragon put his big head into the window of Ye Gong's house and dragged his long tail on the ground.
龙把大大地头伸进叶公家的窗户，长长的尾巴拖在地上。
lóng  bǎ  dà  dà  dì  tóu  shēn  jìn  yè  gōng  jia  de  chuāng  hu zhǎng  zhǎng  de  wěi  ba  tuō  zài  dì  shang  。  

When Lord Ye heard the noise, he went out of his bedroom to look at it.
叶公听到有声音，就走出卧室来看，这一看可不得了了，
 yè  gōng  tīng  dào  yǒu  shēng  yīn，jiù  zǒu  chū  wò  shì  lái  kàn，zhè  yī  kàn  kě  bù  dé  liǎo  le，  

A real dragon was staring at him, and Ye Gong turned pale with fear.
一只真龙正在那里瞪着自己，叶公顿时吓得脸色苍白，
yī  zhǐ  zhēn  lóng  zhèng  zài  nà  li  dèng  zhe  zì  jǐ，yè  gōng  dùn  shí  xià  de  liǎn  sè  cāng  bái，  

Shaking all over, he fled with a cry.
浑身发抖，大叫一声逃走了。
hún  shēn  fā  dǒu，dà  jiào  yī  shēng  táo  zǒu  le。
