It is said that there were no human beings when the sky and the earth were spearated by Pangu.
据说，盘古开天辟地的时候，还没有人类。 
jù shuō，pán ɡǔ kāi tiān pì dì de shí hou，hái méi yǒu rén lèi。 

The sun shined in the day time while the moon glowed at night, the trees, flowers and grass all flourished, and rivers never ceased to run.
白天阳光明媚，夜晚月光笼罩，花草树木皆遍地丛生，江河奔流不息。 
bái tiān yánɡ ɡuānɡ mínɡ mèi，yè wǎn yuè ɡuānɡ lǒnɡ zhào，huā cǎo shù mù jiē biàn dì cónɡ shēnɡ，jiānɡ hé bēn liú bù xī。 

Nüwa, a goddess of ancient Chinese mythology, was joyfully wandering around the beautiful world every day, but meanwhile she felt a little bit lonely and it seemed something was missing.
女娲是中国古代神话传说中的女神，她每天都快乐地在这美丽的世间漫游，但与此同时，她感到有点儿孤单，好像缺少点什么。 
nǚ wā shì zhōnɡ ɡuó ɡǔ dài shén huà chuán shuō zhōnɡ de nǚ shén，tā měi tiān dōu kuài lè de zài zhè měi lì de shì jiān màn yóu，dàn yǔ cǐ tónɡ shí, tā ɡǎn dào yóu diánr ɡū dān，hǎo xiànɡ quē shǎo diǎn shén me。

One day, Nüwa came to a river and her eyes unconsciously fell on the placid water.
一天，女娲来到河边，她的眼睛无意间落在平静的水面上。 
yì tiān，nǚ wā lái dào hé biān，tā de yǎn jinɡ wú yì jiān luò zài pínɡ jìnɡ de shuǐ miàn shànɡ。 

Seeing her reflection in the water, Nüwa was suddenly enlightened that the lack of creature of her ownkind was leading cause for her loneliness.
看到水中自己的倒影，女娲瞬间明白了，缺少同类物种是她孤独的主要原因。 
kàn dào shuǐ zhōnɡ zì jǐ de dào yǐnɡ，nǚ wā shùn jiān mínɡ bɑi le，quē shǎo tónɡ lèi wù zhǒnɡ shì tā ɡū dú de zhǔ yào yuán yīn。 

With this thought, Nüwa immediately dug out some soil, mixed it with water, then, kneaded and shaped it into a small muddy figure on the basis of her appearance.
带着这种想法，女娲随即挖出一些泥土, 把它和水混合，然后，根据自己的容貌将其揉捏成一个小泥人。 
dài zhe zhè zhǒnɡ xiánɡ fǎ，nǚ wā suí jí wā chū yì xiē ní tǔ，bǎ tā hé shuǐ hùn hé，rán hòu，ɡēn jù zì jǐ de rónɡ mào jiānɡ qí róu niē chénɡ yí ɡè xiǎo ní rén。 

The muddy figure became alive once it fell on the ground, jumping up and down.
小泥人刚一落地，立刻就变活了，蹦蹦跳跳的。 
xiǎo ní rén ɡānɡ yí luò dì，lì kè jiù biàn huó le，bènɡ bènɡ tiào tiào de。 

Nüwa was filled with pleasure，she kept making muddy figure，with the hope that they could be seen everywhere on the earth.
女娲充满了欢喜，她继续做着泥人，希望他们能在地球上随处可见。 
nǚ wā chōnɡ mǎn le huān xǐ，tā jì xù zuò zhe ní rén，xī wànɡ tā men nénɡ zài dì qiú shànɡ suí chù kě jiàn。 

She worked for a long time, felt very tired.
她做了很长时间，感觉很累。 
tā zuò le hěn chánɡ shí jiān，ɡǎn jué hěn lèi 。 

A fantastic idea suddenly occurred in her mind.
突然，她想到了一个绝妙的好办法。 
tū rán，tā xiǎnɡ dào le yí ɡè jué miào de hǎo bàn fǎ。 

Nüwa pulled a cane from the cliff,  put one end of the cane in the mud, and then, she withdrew it from the mud and brandished it to the air.
女娲从悬崖上扯下一根藤条，把藤条的一端放进泥巴里面，然后，再从泥巴里拽出来，甩向空中。 
nǚ wā cónɡ xuán yá shànɡ chě xià yì ɡēn ténɡ tiáo，bǎ ténɡ tiáo de yì duān fànɡ jìn ní bā lǐ miàn，rán hòu，zài cónɡ ní bā lǐ zhuài chū lái, shuǎi xiànɡ kōnɡ zhōnɡ。 

The mud on the cane was thrown towards the ground, where continued splashing mud drops turned into numerous small muddy figures.
藤条上的泥巴甩向地面，飞溅的泥巴点变出了无数的小泥人。 
ténɡ tiáo shànɡ de ní bā shuǎi xiànɡ dì miàn，fēi jiàn de ní bā dián biàn chū liǎo wú shù de xiǎo ní rén。 

Afterwards, Nüwa made both men and women in the same way.
之 后，女娲用同样的方式造出了男人和女人。  
zhī hòu，nǚ wā yònɡ tónɡ yànɡ de fānɡ shì zào chū le nán rén hé nǚ rén。  

Letting them live together, marry, conceive and raise their offspring.
让他们一起生活，结婚生子，抚育后代。 
rànɡ tā men yì qǐ shēnɡ huó，jié hūn shēnɡ zǐ，fǔ yù hòu dài。 

Human beings have thus survived from generation to generation.
人类就这样代代相传，生生不息。 
rén lèi jiù zhè yànɡ dài dài xiānɡ chuán，shēnɡ shēnɡ bù xī。
