once upon a time, there was a pretty woman, named Chang'e.
从前，有一个美丽的女人，她叫嫦娥。 
cónɡ qián，yǒu yí ɡè měi lì de nǚ rén，tā jiào chánɡ é。 

she had a kind-hearted husband, Hou Yi, who was very good at archery.
她有一个心地善良的丈夫，名叫后羿，后羿很擅长射箭。 
tā yǒu yí ɡè xīn dì shàn liánɡ de zhànɡ fu，mínɡ jiào hòu yì，hòu yì hěn shàn chánɡ shè jiàn。 

They lived in that times when there were ten suns in the sky, which made plants wither, water in rivers and lakes run dry.
他们生活在天上有十个太阳的时代，那个时代植物枯萎，河流和湖泊干涸。 
tā men shēnɡ huó zài tiān shànɡ yǒu shí ɡè tài yánɡ de shí dài，nà ɡè shí dài zhí wù kū wěi，hé liú hé hú pō ɡān hé。 

It's too hot for people to live.
天气太热，人类也无法生存。 
tiān qì tài rè，rén lèi yě wú fǎ shēnɡ cún。 

To protect the earth, Hou Yi used his bow and arrows to shoot down nine suns, only leaving one shining in the sky.
为了保护地球，后羿用弓箭射下了九个太阳，只留下一个在天空中照耀。 
wèi le bǎo hù dì qiú，hòu yì yònɡ ɡōnɡ jiàn shè xià le jiǔ ɡè tài yánɡ，zhǐ liú xià yí ɡè zài tiān kōnɡ zhōnɡ zhào yào。 

As a reward, the queen of heaven gave Hou Yi an elixir of life for his good contribution.
作为回报，王母娘娘送给后羿一粒长生不老药，以奖励他的壮举。 
zuò wéi huí bào，wánɡ mǔ niánɡ niánɡ sònɡ ɡěi hòu yì yí lì chánɡ shēnɡ bù lǎo yào，yǐ jiǎnɡ lì tā de zhuànɡ jǔ。 

However,Hou Yi was unwilling to leave his wife,so he gave that medcine to Chang'e for safekeeping.
然而，后羿不愿意离开自己的妻子，所以他就把那个药交给嫦娥保管。 
rán ér，hòu yì bú yuàn yì lí kāi zì jǐ de qī zi，suó yǐ tā jiù bǎ nà ɡè yào jiāo ɡěi chánɡ é  báo ɡuǎn。 

On the 15th day of the eighth lunar month,Hou Yi went out to hunt as usally like before.
农历八月十五这天，后羿像往常一样外出打猎。 
nónɡ lì bá yuè shí wǔ zhè tiān，hòu yì xiànɡ wǎnɡ chánɡ yí yànɡ wài chū dǎ liè。 

A wicked man with wrong mind broke into Hou Yi's house and forced Chang'e to hand over that elixir.
一个心怀不轨的恶人闯进了后羿的家，逼迫嫦娥交出那个长生不老药。 
yí ɡè xīn huái bù ɡuǐ de è  rén chuǎnɡ jìn le hòu yì de jiā，bī pò chánɡ é  jiāo chū nà ɡè chánɡ shēnɡ bù lǎo yào。 

In order to protect the villlage people from being harmed by misfortune, Chang'e had no idea than ate that elixir herself.
为了保护村民免受不幸的伤害，嫦娥没办法只能自己吃下了那个长生不老药。 
wèi le bǎo hù cūn mín miǎn shòu bú xìnɡ de shānɡ hài，chánɡ é  méi bàn fǎ zhǐ nénɡ zì jǐ chī xià le nà ɡè chánɡ shēnɡ bù lǎo yào。 

Suddenly, Chang'e flew from her house toward the sky and finally landed on the moon.
突然，嫦娥飞出了她的屋子，向天空飞去，最后降落在了月亮上。 
tū rán，chánɡ é  fēi chū le tā de wū zi，xiànɡ tiān kōnɡ fēi qù，zuì hòu jiànɡ luò zài le yuè liɑnɡ shànɡ。 

From that time, Hou Yi cannot see his loved wife, Chang'e, forever, though they deeply missed each other.
从那时起，后羿就再也见不到他心爱的妻子嫦娥了，尽管他们深深地思念着彼此。 
cónɡ nà shí qǐ，hòu yì jiù zài yě jiàn bú dào tā xīn ài de qī zi chánɡ é  le，jín ɡuǎn tā men shēn shēn dì sī niàn zhe bí cǐ。 

The villagers also missed the good Chang'e very much, and put Chang'e's favorite food in the yard to bless her from afar.
村民们也非常想念善良的嫦娥，人们把嫦娥最喜欢的食物放在院子里，从远处祝福她。 
cūn mín men yě fēi chánɡ xiǎnɡ niàn shàn liánɡ de chánɡ é，rén men bǎ chánɡ é  zuì xǐ huɑn de shí wù fànɡ zài yuàn zi lǐ，cónɡ yuǎn chù zhù fú tā。 

Since then, August 15 every year,it has become Chinese people look forward to a reunion of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
从此，每年的8月15日，就成为中国人期盼团圆的中秋佳节。 
cónɡ cǐ，měi nián de 8 yuè 15 rì，jiù chénɡ wéi zhōnɡ ɡuó rén qī pàn tuán yuán de zhōnɡ qiū jiā jié。
